Do high electric bills this summer have you singing the summertime blues?
At Blanton’s Heating & A/C, we can help — not with the singing, but by helping you save money on those bills. About half of the energy consumed by a home in the Fayetteville, NC area goes toward cooling and heating the air, so HVAC efficiency is by far your biggest opportunity for utility savings.
And though the professionals at Blanton’s can work to ensure that your current A/C is running at its peak efficiency, most older air conditioners simply weren’t designed to be efficient. To make your electric bills as low as possible, you’ll need to invest in a high-efficiency air conditioning system.
The energy efficiency of air conditioning systems is measured by SEER, which is a ratio of how much cool air an A/C puts out for each kilowatt of electricity it consumes. Older air conditioners, especially those that were installed at least a decade ago, almost always have low SEER ratings of around 10. This is partly because of their older technology, and partly because A/C units become less efficient as they age.
However, newer high-efficiency air conditioning systems can have SEER ratings of 20 or more. And the math is fairly simple: Double the SEER rating, and you cut the air conditioning system’s energy consumption in half.
High-efficiency air conditioning, therefore, can be a very sound investment. It is an investment — as in, there is an initial cost for upgrading your system — but that investment then saves you money every month, for years and years. Energy Star provides a way to compare the costs and savings of different SEER ratings through a free, downloadable Life Cycle Cost Estimate worksheet. It can help you get a rough idea, but for a professional cost estimate that takes into account the specifics of your North Carolina home, give us a call.
