Our city gives off the impression that we are drinking only the most pure drinking water in our area BUT that account seems to be QUITE WRONG. In 2016, an article was published on our drinking water that NOW it was safer than EVER to drink, but the city seemed to leave a few ALARMING details out. The report forgot to mention 1,4 dioxane, a likely carcinogen that is found in industrial solvent and stabilizer. Even though the report does not mention it, researchers found within the last six months a concentration of 65 parts per BILLION of 1,4 dioxane in our drinking water. That is 186 times higher than the federal cancer risk.
Other reports in close areas have also left out the findings of this carcinogen, but it is definitely there.
Now, this issue is similar to one North Carolina has already seen. Back when the GenX incident happened, swift and immediate action was taken to remove Chemours. But the chemical 1,4 dioxane is still lurking in our drinking water today. When the news broke about GenX, state lawmakers jumped on the case, but every one has stayed silent on 1,4 dioxane.
